The Mediterranean Sea offers a glimpse into one possible future for the world's oceans. European seabass were once commonly caught in its shallow, nearshore waters. The Future Ocean is a Cluster of Excellence founded in November in line with the German excellence initiative by the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel (CAU), the Muthesius Kunsthochschule (MKHS), the Institut für Weltwirtschaft (IfW) and the Helmholtz-Zentrum für Ozeanforschung (GEOMAR). It is an interdisciplinary marine research group and it is funded by the German Research Director: Prof. Dr. Martin Visbeck.

The oceans are a shared resource covering 71 percent of the planet. They play a central role in the world’s natural systems, like regulating our climate and absorbing carbon dioxide. Over a billion people, including some of the poorest in the world.

The face of the ocean has changed completely since the first commercial fishers cast their nets and hooks over a thousand years ies intensified over the centuries, but even by the nineteenth century it was still felt, justifiably, that the plentiful resources of the sea were for the most part beyond the reach of fishing, and so there was little need to restrict fishing or create.

Progress on Core Ocean Health Issues. There are numerous, albeit incomplete, information sources on the state of our oceans, 6 as ocean ecologies are complex and not yet fully understood.

Discoveries of new species and habitats are ongoing; recent finds include species of deep-sea crustaceans, jellyfish, Arctic zooplankton, and microbes. 7 A more comprehensive knowledge of Author: Peter G. A new series of science books for teens that explores the many ways in which global warming may change our daily weather, alter our long-term climate, and present new challenges to our way of warming is likely to alter ocean levels and temperatures.

How will this affect worldwide weather patterns in future decades. Are we likely to see more violent weather, and how will oceans.
